Thank you for taking a walk through Webster Groves history.

The Historic Webster Walk Series has been created to provide residents and visitors with a look inside the unique character of Webster Groves, MO. The walks, guidebooks and this website are designed so that individuals, schools, scouts and other groups can tailor the walks to their own pace and particular interests.

The Webster Groves Historical Society gratefully acknowledges this fine organization whose support of the initial project helped to make this fifth Webster Walk a reality for Webster Groves citizens and visitors both today and for many years to come.

The Webster Groves Historical Society

When the Webster Groves Historical Society was incorporated in 1965 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, its initial goal was to save the 1857 home of Christopher and Mary Ann Eades Hawken, which was facing demolition. In July 1970, the house was moved to its current Southwest Park location at 1155 South Rock Hill Road.

Today, the beautifully restored Hawken House with its elegant period furnishings is open to the public for tours, and our extensive Archive devoted to local history is maintained just a few feet away in the 30-year old History Barn that also houses the Hearth Room, a community event venue with seating for 120.
